How Sports Card Hunt is researched

Sports Card Hunt publishes “grail lists” — the most coveted cards for the players collectors chase most. We say “deeply researched” and mean it: here’s exactly how a list is built, where the information comes from, and how we check it before you ever see it.

What “grail” means here

A grail isn’t simply the most expensive card. We rank by how coveted a card is — a blend of four things: how iconic the card is (is it the recognized flagship?), how scarce it is (true one-of-ones and low serial numbers rank high), how much collectors actually chase it, and its realized market value. A card can be the priciest without being the #1 grail, and vice versa.

Where our information comes from

Every list is built from two clearly separated tiers of sources:

Factual sources establish what actually exists and what it’s worth — product checklists (which cards, subsets, and parallels are real) and sold-price references. Community sourcestell us what collectors are genuinely chasing right now. We keep these separate so opinion never masquerades as fact, and every published list cites the sources behind it.

Card images, current asking prices, and live auction bid activity are pulled from real eBay listings at build time — a listing price is an asking price, so we treat recent soldresults as the truer value signal.

Research, then human review

A research agent assembles each draft — gathering the real card lineup, reconciling sources, and ranking by grail status. Then the hard rule kicks in: accuracy over completeness. Every card is checked against a real eBay listing to confirm its exact identity (right player, right product, right parallel), and anything we can’t verify is flagged rather than guessed. A person reviews that report and edits the draft before it’s published. If we can’t stand behind a card, it doesn’t go on the list.

How we make money

Sports Card Hunt earns a commission from qualifying eBay purchases made through links on this site, at no extra cost to you. That never changes the rankings — the research and the affiliate links are kept independent. This site is for research and enjoyment, not financial advice; cards are collectibles, not guaranteed investments.
